Privacy Policy

UK website and customer privacy notice – last updated 11 September 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Caythorpe Candles collects, uses, stores and shares personal information when you visit our website, place an order, contact us or otherwise interact with us.

1. Who we are

Caythorpe Candles is the controller of personal information used for our own business purposes. Contact: Caythorpe Candles, 30 Caythorpe Road, Caythorpe, Nottingham, NG14 7EA; caythorpecandles@gmail.com; 07815 738580.

2. Personal information we collect

We may collect your name, billing and delivery address, email address, telephone number, order details, payment-related information supplied through our payment provider, correspondence and information you provide when contacting us.

When you use the website, technical information may also be collected, such as IP address, browser/device information, pages or products viewed, referral information and cookie or similar-technology data, subject to your cookie choices.

3. Why we use your information and our lawful bases

We use information to process and deliver orders, take payment, provide customer service and manage returns. The lawful basis is normally performance of a contract or taking steps at your request before entering into a contract.

We keep appropriate business, transaction and accounting records where necessary to comply with legal obligations.

We may use information for fraud prevention, security, website administration and improving our services where this is necessary for our legitimate interests and does not override your rights and freedoms.

We send marketing communications where permitted by law and where we have the appropriate consent or other lawful basis. You can unsubscribe from marketing at any time.

4. Marketing

We will not use your personal information for direct electronic marketing in a way that breaches applicable UK marketing rules. Where consent is required, we will ask for it and keep a record of your choice.

You can unsubscribe by using the unsubscribe link in a marketing email or by contacting us at caythorpecandles@gmail.com. You may still receive essential service messages, such as order confirmations or delivery updates.

5. Shopify and service providers

Our online store is powered by Shopify. Shopify and other service providers may process information on our behalf to operate the store, process payments, provide security, analyse permitted website activity and fulfil orders.

We may provide relevant delivery information to carriers such as Royal Mail or another delivery provider used for your order.

We may disclose information where necessary to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, prevent fraud or protect our rights.

6. Payments

Payment details are handled through the payment services made available through Shopify and/or the payment provider selected at checkout. We do not ordinarily store your full card number.

7. Cookies and similar technologies

We use essential cookies and may use analytics, preference, advertising or other non-essential technologies where permitted and, where required, after you have given consent. See our separate Cookie Policy for details.

The previous website policy listed Shopify cookies and Google Analytics. Because cookie names and services can change, the live website should be audited periodically so this policy and the cookie banner match the technologies actually in use.

8. How long we keep information

We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, including fulfilling orders, dealing with queries, resolving disputes and meeting accounting, tax and other legal obligations.

Different categories of information may need different retention periods. We periodically review information and securely delete or anonymise it when it is no longer required.

9. International transfers

Some suppliers used to operate the website and provide related services may process information outside the UK. Where personal information is transferred internationally, we will use an appropriate lawful transfer mechanism and safeguards required by applicable data-protection law.

10. Your rights

Subject to legal conditions and exemptions, you may have rights to request access to your personal information, correction of inaccurate information, erasure, restriction of processing, objection to certain processing, data portability, and withdrawal of consent where consent is the lawful basis.

To exercise a right, contact caythorpecandles@gmail.com. We may need information to verify your identity before responding.

11. Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we use your information, please contact us first so that we can try to resolve your concern.

You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's independent data-protection regulator. Information about making a complaint is available from the ICO website.

12. Children

Our online shop is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children for marketing purposes. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us so we can consider appropriate action.

13. Automated decision-making

We do not make decisions based solely on automated processing that produce legal or similarly significant effects on customers. Our ecommerce/payment providers may use automated fraud-prevention checks to protect transactions.

14. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy when our practices, services, technology or legal requirements change. The latest version will be published on the website.
